Legend has it that Chamundaraya's, a General in the Ganga Empire, at the bequest of his mother set out on a pilgrimage and came across the two hills at Shravanbelgola, which was already venerated as a sacred spot by the Jains.

Hello, I am quite interested in learning more about the apparent contradiction/hypocritism of being a Jain and a warrior at the same time.
Dr. Zydenbos exemplified this contradiction in the person of Chamundaraya who was a Jain and a famous general in his time.
A more famliar example would be Emperor Chandragupta Maurya and his descendant, Chandragupta Vikramaditya, who were both devout Jains and excellent warriors, having conquered many lands through the military might of the Mauryan Empire.
