The Chancellor is the chief administrative officer of the campus and is responsible for carrying out policies and procedures as established by the Board of Trustees and the University President and for coordinating the major administrative units of the campus, each supervised by the Deputy Chancellor or Vice Chancellor.
The Chancellor is also responsible for campus strategic planning and, in particular, for proposing and reviewing activities that involve different administrative units, such as budget reallocations, enrollment management, facilities planning and some labor relations.
The records of the Chancellor's Office are organized into three major series: Individual Chancellors, Budget Documents and Institutional Studies; and a number of smaller series.

B. Student records are those records which: (a) are directly related to a student, and (b) are maintained by a University of California campus or by a party acting for the campus, whether recorded by handwriting, print, tapes, film, microfilm, or other means.
A. Applicants In accordance with University policy, an applicant has the right to see records referencing him or her with regard to the application process, except that disclosure of evaluation forms and records in an applicant's file, "created with the documented understanding of confidentiality" is protected.
Until an applicant has enrolled in and attended classes, any records referring to him or her are considered to be applicant records and must be used and accessed in a manner consistent with protection afforded by the IPA.

Paul Edward Gray was appointed chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1971 as deputy to President Jerome Bert Wiesner.
Records received in 1981, boxes 2-45, 1965-1979, include subject files of correspondence, reports, working notes, and published material chiefly concerning operation of the Institute, including budget preparation, curriculum development, student affairs, student housing, tuition, personal affairs, recruitment of minorities, and Institute relations with the city of Cambridge.
Records received in 1982, boxes 46-47, 1971-1980, contain chronologically filed correspondence, including correspondence concerning the MIT Council for the Arts; the Edgerton, Germeshausen and Grier (EGandG) Education Center; and inauguration letters.

Chancellor also changed its description of the Vestex fees, but failed to record as expenses the $1.1 million in fees it now claimed that it supposedly paid to Vestex during 1999 in connection with the MRB acquisition closing.
Chancellor falsely stated that Vestex could earn up to $3.25 million for its MRB consulting services, that Vestex had already earned $1.1 million in fees, and that the remaining fees were contingent fees dependent on the profitability of the merged company.
Ezrin recorded the transfer of Merrill Lynch loan proceeds to Vestex and VMI as payments for guarantees supposedly provided by Vestex, even though he had doubts as to whether there was any basis for the payments and made little, if any, effort to determine their propriety.

Under Chancellor Paul Sharp's reorganization of the campus administrative structure, a Vice Chancellorship for Advanced Studies and Research was created in 1965 with responsibility for all campus graduate studies and research activities.
Records on the graduate programs and on individual research proposals will be found in the files of the Dean of the Graduate School and of the Dean of Research Administration (now an agency of the Graduate School).
Chancellor J. Carlyle Sitterson did not appoint a successor, but rather reassigned the responsibility for the research institutes and centers to the Provost, Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, and Dean of the Graduate School.
