Topic: Chang movie

Chang (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chang: A Drama of the Wilderness (Famous Lasky Corp., 1927) is a film about a poor farmer in Siam (Thailand) and his daily struggle for survival in the jungle.
In the directors' own words, Chang is a "melodrama with man, the jungle, and wild animals as its cast." Kru, the farmer who stars in the film, battled leopards, tigers, and even a herd of elephants, which pose a constant threat to his livelihood.
Chang was nominated for the Academy Award for Unique and Artistic Production at the first Academy Awards in 1929, the only year when that award was presented.

Chang Cheh, typically in collaboration with prolific screenplay writer I Kuang, has often been called the father of the kung fu movie.
Ironically, one of the "Five Venoms" who appeared in the movie that gave the group their nickname is not considered a member of the "Venom" unit, because this was his only appearance with the team.
As with most of Chang’s movies, "The Five Venoms" deals heavily with loyalty and betrayal and is fairly violent in nature (not surprisingly, Chang was a major influence on former understudy John Woo).

In his new movie Chihwaseon, director Im Gweon-Taek uses the history and natural beauty of Korea as a backdrop for the story of the painter Chang Sung-up, one of the preeminent Eastern painters of the late Choson period.
Chang receives heavy patronage from the noblemen of his era, and the loosening of class structure in the latter half of the 19th century, which many saw as a foretelling of the political turmoil and eventual collapse of the Choson Kingdom, allowed Chang to exist comfortably at their side.
While it might be questionable whose artistic philosophy is being presented, Chang or the makers of the film, the audience will leave the theater with the impression of an artist who, through all the political and historical changes, remained firm in his devotion to a life in painting.
