Chanuyos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The "Chanuyos" was the storehouse for the Israelite Temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, where the Priests (Cohanim) and Levites stored the accoutrements for the daily functioning of the Temple.
The Chanuyos consisted of a single room along the southern edge of the Mount, almost 1000 feet long and 105 feet wide.
The Chanuyos were destroyed along with the Temple by the Romans in 70 CE.

It was called "Chanuyos," the stores or mall.
When the Roman government limited the powers of the Sanhedrin, the Sanhedrin moved from their chambers inside the Azarah to the Chanuyos.

 cars - Al-Aqsa Mosque
Muslim tradition states that Muhammad ascended to heaven from the Mount in 621, making the mosque the third most holy shrine in Islam (see Isra and Miraj.) After the Dome of the Rock (690) the first wooden Al-Aqsa Mosque was constructed by the Umayyads, completed in 710.
There is some evidence 1 that the mosque was built out of the ruins of the auxillary Temple building called the Chanuyos.
The structure has been destroyed by earthquakes and rebuilt at least five times.

 Temple Mount: History
In 690 CE, after the Islamic conquest of Palestine, an octagonal Muslim shrine (but not a mosque) was built around the rock, which became known as the Dome of the Rock (Qubbat as-Sakhra).
In 715 CE the Umayyads rebuilt the Temple's Chanuyos into a mosque, which they named al-Masjid al-Aqsa, "the furthest mosque."
The mosque has been destroyed several times in earthquakes; the current version dates from the first half of the 11th century.

INSITES OF THE DAY - YOMA, DAF 58   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
We find that the Par He'elem Davar is only brought for a misruling of "the Sanhedri Gedolah that sits in the *Lishkas ha'Gazis*" (YERUSHALMI Horayos 1:1; TOSEFTA Horayos 1:3; TORAS KOHANIM Vayikra Parsha 4:1).
During the last forty years before the Churban, the Sanhedrin no longer sat in the Lishkas ha'Gazis (but in Chanuyos, Shabbos 15a), so they could not have brought a Par He'elem Davar!
And if the Paroches was stained with blood 40 years earlier, *before* the Sanhedrin left the Lishkas ha'Gazis, the Paroches would have been changed long before the Churban, since they used to prepare two new Parochos each year (Mishnah, Shekalim 21b)!
