Chaosium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chaosium is one of the longer lived publishers of role-playing games still in existence.
Chaosium and Greg Stafford are also responsible for Pendragon, an Arthurian RPG now published by Green Knight Publishing.
Some Chaosium products have been translated into French, Spanish and Italian, and were available in France from Jeux Descartes, in Spain from La factoría de ideas and in Italy from Stratelibri and Grifo Edizioni.

Current State of Affairs In June of 1998, Chaosium indicated it was ready to transfer Pendragon to me, rather than repay the principle of the loan.
Instead, Chaosium and I are currently operating under an agreement whereby Chaosium continues to retain all income generated and pay all costs for products covered under the "Pendragon" trademark.
As an aside, the very name of "Chaosium" is almost counter to the powerful Arthurian themes of knights of chivalry, the law and order of Camelot, the search for meaning and purpose in the pursuit of the Grail, and so on.

This core rulebook (MSRP $39.95), scheduled for release in early 2002, will be for all fans of Call of Cthulhu.

With regard to the fiction itself, Chaosium has two principle types of collections: one is a tribute to a particular writer of the Mythos genre; the other is a tribute to a particular aspect/entity/concept within the Mythos.

 The History of RuneQuest
Chaosium's Arthurian RPG, Pendragon, can be considered to be the most distantly-related member of the BRP family; the connection is fairly tenuous.
And Chaosium needed funds; by all accounts they would have soon faced bankruptcy if they hadn't sold one of their two prime properties, either Call of Cthulhu or RQ.
It should be noted that Chaosium is still publishing new material for Call of Cthulhu and the various iterations of their Eternal Champion series, based on the works of Michael Moorcock.

However, Chaosium was not thanked for these mythoi on the bottom of page 4, although TSR apparently had permission to use them.
This oversight was rectified in the second printing – “Special thanks are also given to Chaosium, Inc. for permission to use the material found in the Cthulhu Mythos and the Melnibonean Mythos.”
One story behind this is that Chaosium’s permission was withdrawn (for unknown reasons); another that senior folks at TSR were not happy to “promote” a rival company.

The newest version of Call of Cthulhu, the 6th edition, is still based on the familiar "Basic Role Play" rules set from Chaosium.
Contrary to some rumors, Chaosium is NOT abandoning its own rules to go to the d20 rules; this particular book is not a new version of the joint Wizards of The Coast / Chaosium "Call of Cthulhu D20." This one is the "Classic Flavor" CoC!
That's the Chaosium approach, and one I really admire: Unlike DandD 3.5, when Chaosium does a new edition, they don't try to make the most recent previous edition obsolete.
