		Chapel Street runs for over 4 kilometres from the Yarra River in the north to Brighton Road in the south, traversing the south east suburbs of South Yarra, Prahran, Windsor, St Kilda and St Kilda East.
		Tram routes 3, 5, 6, 8, 64 and 72 all intersect Chapel Street.
		Chapel Street was named after the first church in Prahran, an Independent (or Congregational) Church, built 100 metres north of Malvern Road on the east side, between 1850 and 1852.

		During the reign of Elisabeth I, near to the top of the street was the White Cross Market, the cross was made of stone stood at the opposite end of Old Hall Street, it had five steps around which the market people gathered.
		As to which chapel the street is named for, historians have disagreed throughout its existence, Stonehouse in his Streets of Liverpool 1869, page 6, states that the Chapel of St Nicholas though not mentioned in the Domesday Book existed as a chapel of ease to Walton, long before the book was compiled.
