Character class - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
In the electronic RPG Final Fantasy series, character classes can be grouped similarly by characteristics like relative physical/magical/special attack/defense power, but distinguished by their skills and equipment.
There are also "other" classes, such as thief ("steal" and "mug" skills and high speed), dancer (ability to equip ribbons), bard (musical instruments as weapons and songs that alter statuses), and scholar (books as weapons and 'seeing' enemy stats and properties).
These options include prestige classes (a form of sub-class that is only available to characters who meet certain prerequisites), multi-classing (advancing a character in two or more classes), and hybrid class/skill systems.

In addition, this class provides several methods for determining a character's category (lowercase letter, digit, etc.) and for converting characters from uppercase to lowercase and vice versa.

A character is considered to be a space character if and only if it is specified to be a space character by the Unicode standard.

 Variant Character Classes :: d20srd.org
In cases where a single class offers a variety of paths (such as the totem barbarian or the monk fighting styles), the easiest solution is simply to bar multiclassing between different versions of the same class (just as a character can't multiclass between different versions of specialist wizards).
A character with levels of bard and levels of bardic sage has two separate caster levels and two separate sets of spells per day, even though the classes are very similar.
These spells are treated as being on the character's class spell list (and thus she can use wands or arcane scrolls that hold those spells, or even prepare those spells in her normal wizard spell slots).

Beginning multiclass characters gain the hit dice of each of the character’s classes, but divides each roll for hit points by the number of classes the character possesses, rounding upward.
Characters that add a second class do not receive any of the standard starting money, equipment, or similar beginning play features when the second class is added.

 Character Flow Object Class
This is used by the flow object classes for mathematical formulae to adjust the spacing of the character.
If the nominal alignment mode of the font resource for the character flow object's writing-mode is not the same as the paragraph's alignment mode, then the glyph area is automatically adjusted as specified by the alignment mode property in the font resource for the specified writing-mode.
Character properties are used to determine the default values of certain non-inherited characteristics of character flow objects.

Reclamation: Character Creation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
You have to choose your class at character creation time, and after that your advancement path is predetermined, so if you start as a warrior, advancement will improve your warrior skills in the exact same way that every other warrior advances.
Thus, players must choose their character class (that they will be forever locked into with that character) when they first start the game and understand little or nothing of the ramifications of their choices.
The first experience for new 0 orbit characters in Reclamation, otherwise called the Newly-Awakened, will be more or less pre-planned and similar for all characters as they go through a series of short tutorial quests that both teach them the mechanics of the game and also explain the basics of the various advancement paths.

The Character make_copy() function will make a new copy of the Character, with all of its joints copied, and with a new set of dynamic vertex arrays all ready to go, but it will not copy any of the original Character's geometry, so the new Character won't look like much.
Should be overridden by derived classes to return true if this kind of node has the special property that just one of its children is visible at any given time, and furthermore that the particular visible child can be determined without reference to any external information (such as a camera).
This is called by r_copy_subgraph(); the copy has already been made of this particular node (and this is the copy); this function's job is to copy all of the children from the original.

This is a variable length character string class used by the Persistent framework of classes to implement the attributes of objects.
This class is usually not invoked directly, at least not when used with the Persistent framework of classes.
However, the constructor arguments of this class are usually of interest when defining the attributes of a Persistent object since the add_attribute method of the Persistent classes instantiates this class directly.

 AD&D Character Class:  Bard
Half-elves and Occidental Humans may be Bards; note that in the case of the half-elf, the character should begin as a fighter/thief rather than a fighter, retiring from both classes simultaneously to become a bard.

Saving throws are the best available to the character with all classes begun, that is, fighter saves while a fighter only, the better of fighter or thief saves when both, and the best of fighter, thief, and druid saves when a bard.

Character Class Philosophy   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The class is the prism through which the game experience passes before the player can interact with it.
When a player sits down to make a character, one of the first things he does is look through the classes and pick one to play.
Vivid, well-defined, and compelling classes can make an otherwise dull game a winner, while even the best setting or game style suffers if the classes are uninspiring or a muddled mess of similar options that blur into each other.

Character Class - GameDev.Net Discussion Forums
I'd suggest having a base class all your characters derive from, that way you can just keep them in a big list or structure somewhere, and just run "draw" on each of them per frame, and using virtual and that kind of stuff it will automatically call the most derived version of that.
so then a character would have an update and draw function, and they would be called from the engine in a simple example...
At the moment, I have a main character class, and then I have an enemy class - which all other enemies inherit from - saving time and size by not having to create a new class for each object.

Choosing a C++ Character String Class
From the first day C++ was unveiled, programmers recognized that the language's class definition capability held the key to solving the long-standing C character-string problem.
Some of them were distributed by vendors of compilers or class libraries.
One explanation is that many applications view character strings as elementary data fields, while C/C++/Java programmers have come to view character strings as containers.
