  Fictional character
Critics distinguish between "round characters" and "flat characters." The former are made up of many personality traits and tend to be complex and both more life-like and believable, while the latter consist of only a few personality traits and tend to be simple and less believable.
The protagonist (main character, sometimes known as the "hero" or the "heroine") of a novel is certain to be a round character; a minor, supporting character in the same novel may be a flat character.
Minor characters, or stock characters, are often the focus of this kind of analysis since they tend to rely more heavily on stereotypes than more central characters.

Herbert uses the apparent lull (that is, Dune Messiah and Paul deconstructing his position) in the over-arching story of the series to good effect, and the opening two books are mirrored and refined by the rising and falling action of Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune.
The children of Dune are Leto and Ghanima, the twins borne by Chani, Paul's concubine, at the close of Dune Messiah, nine years old now, and at the centre of the swirl of scheming and conniving that keep the excitement level high.

Paul Atreides carries the heaviest burden of all the characters in Dune—he is destined to change the course of the universe.
Paul feels torn between his allegiances—to the House of Atreides, to the Bene Gesserit, and to the Fremen—and his role in the intergalactic politics of the Imperium and the Landsraad.
At the end of Dune, although he helps the Fremen cause and protects the Atreides from destruction by the Harkonnen, Paul is nonetheless forever trapped in his role as the Muad’Dib.

Advanced character creation starts by selecting your House Allegiance (which depends on what Great House your Minor House serves); this determines your base attributes and edges (the attributes all start at 2, which is average, while Prescience starts at 0) as well as giving you some skills and a trait.
Like a lot of licensed settings, there's the question of how your characters will be as important as the heroes you've already read about it, but looking at the Houses and guilds and their fragile relationships, you can find all sorts of opportunities for dramatic upheaval.

The most important thing about the game origination is that the process ends totally at the beginning of the game (it is suggested that one of the origination team continue on as gamemaster, but not required).
The gamemaster introduces new props and new or replacement non-player characters (assigning them as needed) and from this, the props log, and logbook, they can keep some idea how ‘things are going’ (not something I have seen any group of gamemasters, no matter how small, being capable of, except in well...exceptional circumstances).
