Illusion of Gaia, while not the most advanced RPG ever made, was definitely ahead of its time.
Illusion of Gaia doesn’t look like much to today’s standards, but for it's time it was very good.
The second game in the Soulblazer trilogy (consisting of Soulblazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma) was produced in 1994 for the SNES and is definitely one of the most unique and interesting games ever made.

Illusion of Gaia is, without a doubt, one of the finest but most overlooked games for the Super Nintendo.
I have to admit, I still get weak in the knees when I think of Illusion of Gaia.
Character animation in IoG, like most of the high-caliber SNES games, is immaculate.

 Illusion of Gaia Review
The graphics of Illusion of Gaia are really excellent for a Super Nintendo game.
In Illusion of Gaia, you play the role of Young Will.

Supposedly, the sequal to Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia really doesn't compare.
There is no real interaction in the storyline, and your characters are constantly making decisions based on information that they got from...
R.I.P. I'm still not sure how I feel about this title.

Soul Blazer is the game before Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma in the series.
Soul Blazer is one of the funnest and most interesting RPG's I have ever played.
I like they way you need to "release" characters in town from the monster nests (I guess that's what you'd call them).

IGN Boards - Re-release of Secret of Mana
Yeah, well in my opinion Secret of Mana was good, but as a single player game was inferior to Zelda, Illusion of Gaia, and not even in the same league as Terranigma.
Shares battle system with Secret of Mana, though there are some major changes to it, such as different weapon classes, lack of multiplayer, only 2 characters (the boy and his dog), an Alchemy system for the game's magic, etc.
THe original Secret of Mana does need to be remade, it had a very flawed and buggy battle system.
