		On February 19, 2006, Turnbull named Chara as a nearby Sun-like star that is old enough to qualify as the top candidate for those listening for radio signals from intelligent civilizations (e.g., the SETI Institute).
		Chara's age can be revised to 4.05 billion years based a new metallicity measurement indicating 64 percent of Sol's iron abundance and nearly the same ratio (98 percent) of calcium to iron abundance (Ibukiyama and Arimoto, 2002), from a previous estimate of 9.8 billion years (Ng and Betelli, 1998).
		Chara B? According to the Yale Bright Star Catalogue, 1991 5th Revised Edition notes entry for HR 4785, a possible companion object was detected as a single-line spectroscopic binary with an estimated orbital period of 2,430 days.

		The dogs are held by Bootes as he pursues Ursa Major around the pole, Chara and Cor Caroli (the Alpha star) helping make the "southern dog," the "northern dog" represented by a small group of stars to the northeast of Cor Caroli.
		Chara was originally the name for the southern dog itself, the northern called "Asterion" for "Little Star." But with the brighter of the those that make the southern dog called "Cor Caroli," little Chara got the name to itself.
		Chara is also detected in the X-ray part of the spectrum, implying that it too has a surrounding hot corona, as expected.
