All that remains in the pit burial of its original fill is worn igneous rocks, quantities of coarse sherds and parts of human skull that had been cut through by the digging of the tomb.

In the Andean region, the Audiencia of Charcas was established in 1550 and the Audiencia of Quito in 1563.
The Audiencia of Charcas was annexed to the Viceroyalty of La Plata in 1776, which increased the political and economic power and importance of Buenos Aires and eliminated Lima as head of the territory.
The sober sculpture produced in the Audiencia of Charcas, which concentrated exclusively on the human form was developed by two groups of artists, each with distinct aesthetics: indigenous artists based in workshops such as those of the Copacabana-Juli and the La Plata Schools, and European artists from the Potosí; School, among others.

Today a visit to the western part of the state of San Luis Potosí reveals the past glories and changed fortunes of four towns where mining was once all important; four towns which, as the four ingots on the coat-of-arms suggest, supported the region's economy for decades.
When Charcas was finally successfully refounded in 1584, the war-weary victors were rewarded by the Crown with ample grants of land, sufficient for mining concessions and cattle ranching.
One, which sat for years in the atrium of Charcas church, was stolen by General Bazaine during the French Intervention and relocated in the Natural Sciences Museum in Paris, France, where it may still be seen today.

The Diocese of La Paz was separated from that of Charcas by Paul V, 4 July, 1605 (see LA PAZ, DIOCESE OF).
In the records of the Audiencia de Charcas, preserved in the "Archivo General de Indias" at Simancas, Diego de Zambrana y Guzmán appears to have been the first bishop, though he apparently did not take possession of his see.
In 1748 he was appointed Archbishop of Charcas and in 1746 Archbishop of Lima, and died in the same year on his way to Lima.

The best section of Charcas is near Bulnes, where the street divides and has a center island with trees and landscape...this and the surrounding area is referred to as Alto Palermo....
I like the Alto Palermo area very much, and there are lots of shops, restaurants,etc on the section of Charcas I mentioned as well as on Santa Fe and, of course, in Alto Palermo Mall....

Mexico's Health Ministry on Aug. 13 imposed sancions on Grupo Mexico's Charcas mine to investigate possible lead poisoning in the town of Charcas, which is near San Luis Potosi, a provincial capital about about 220 miles (360 km) north of Mexico City.
Sources said a warehouse holding reagents at the Charcas mine had been shut, leading to a lack of production from the concentrator.
The Charcas mine produces around 170,000 metric tonnes (187,000 tons) a year of zinc in concentrates and also copper, gold, silver and lead as a byproduct, according to industry analysts.
