Aradia (goddess) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Aradia, according to Charles Godfrey Leland's Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches, is the messianic daughter of the goddess Diana who came to Earth to teach witchcraft to her oppressed worshippers.
Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches begins with Aradia's birth to Diana and Lucifer, who is described as "the god of the Sun and of the Moon, the god of Light (Splendor), who was so proud of his beauty, and who for his pride was driven from Paradise".
The Charge of the Goddess, an importance piece of liturgy used in Wiccan rituals, was inspired by the speech attributed to Aradia in the first chapter of Aradia.

Charge of the Goddess - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Charge of the Goddess is a traditional inspirational text sometimes used in Neopaganism and Wicca.
Doreen Valiente, a student of Gerald Gardner, originally wrote a Charge in verse, and later in prose: the prose version is the one known today.
The second paragraph is largely derived and paraphrased from the words that Aradia, the messianic daughter of Diana, speaks to her followers in Charles Godfrey Leland's book Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches (1899).

 Book Review: Aradia
A brief, roughly sketched mythology tells of an alternate savior: Aradia (or Herodias), who is the daughter of the goddess Diana, and her brother the Sun or Lucifer.
Upon her departure from earth, Aradia promises that if her pupils gather in a lonely place once a month, when the moon is full, "And adore the powerful spirit / Of my mother Diana" that her mother would teach them witchcraft, and thereby make them "free from bondage" (271).
The figure of Aradia, along with her charge to gather and worship the goddess, were imported into modern witchcraft with the 1949 publication of Gerald Gardner's highly influential "Wiccan textbook," Book of Shadows.

When Charles Godfrey Leland published Aradia at the end of the nineteenth century he did not realize that he was providing the key source-book which would be the missing link between ancient and modern witchcraft.
When Gardner gave her the responsibility for rewriting some of their coven's key rituals, she took Leland's translation of Aradia and, using it for inspiration, wrote the now standard version of the "Charge of the Goddess" which is one of the most important rituals in modern Wicca.
At this one hundredth anniversary of its first publication, Aradia continues forward, valued even today by the wisest followers of the "new" old religion.

Aradia suggests that it's reasonable to give back evil for evil and what is being received in Gardner is scourging, which isn't exactly 'evil' in the context, although one could argue that it?s a cipher.
