Charity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the 1400, charity meant 'the state of love or simple affection which one was in or out of regarding one's fellows; an occasion or body of people seeking to embody that state; the love of god, in both directions.' The fraternity was the embodiment of this ideal.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Charity is also used as a forename, intended to evoke the idea that one so named is a giving person.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Charity and Charities   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Fraternal charity done in the spirit of Christ effects an equality among all the members of the Christian family, for the material gift of the giver is balanced by the love and prayers of the receiver (2 Corinthians 8:13, 14; 9:11-12).
Assistance was afforded to the clergy, to widows and orphans, to the destitute, the aged, the sick, the persecuted, and imprisoned, and the stranger; and decent burial was given to the neglected dead.
The results of the Church's preaching and practice of charity during this period were that widows, orphans, abandoned children, friendless young women, prisoners, the sick, the helpless poor, and the victims of the barbarian invasions, received all the care and assistance which their condition and the available resources permitted.

 WSP Auckland - Charity
Through charity, the wives and daughters of the rich become involved in their chosen causes, providing a welcome outlet for altruistic energies, protecting them from boredom, while husbands and fathers are busily engaged either in the fine art of exploitation, swapping stories at the club, or exercising on the golf course.
Charity is a social abomination that should be politically rejected by the working class without hesitation together with its modern day sponsor –; capitalism.
Charity, oh sweet Charity, one day we will deprive the capitalist class not only of their monopoly of wealth but you also will be removed from their benevolent custody and dispatched to the dark ages from whence you came!

Tzedakah - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Judaism is very tied to the concept of tzedakah, or charity, and the nature of Jewish giving has created a North American Jewish community that is very philanthropic.
While the word "tzedakah" is most commonly translated into english as "charity", the word actually comes from the hebrew word meaning "justice" or "righteousness".
On Passover, a major holiday in Jewish tradition, one is encouraged to welcome hungry people to the table, for Jews were once slaves in Egypt and should help those in need as they were once helped by God.

 A few thoughts on "Charity"
Charity suffers long, and is kind; charity envies not; vaunts not itself, is not puffed up, nor behaves itself unseemly, seeks not after itself, is not easily provoked, thinks not on that which is evil; rejoices not over unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth; bears all, believes all, hopes all, endures all.
Charity "believes all." God is sometimes hidden, and it seems as though God is not there for us, but charity continues to believe nonetheless: "Even the person who exercises spiritual gifts is subject to doubt.
Charity "hopes all." Charitable love can go on hoping for the best even if there seems to be nothing on which to found that hope.

Find a charity with a proven track record of success with dealing with the type of disaster and in the region in which the disaster occurred.
Many charities do encourage donors not to designate their gifts so that the charity can decide how best to utilize the money, but depending on your confidence in the charity's ability to make that determination, you may want to tell the charity exactly how to use your gift.
Once you feel comfortable with the charity, send the organization a check directly in the mail, or give through their website, thus ensuring 100% of your gift goes to the charity and not the for-profit fundraiser.

 1999 Charity Care Report
In addition to the charity care policy, each hospital annually reports actual total charges for charity care, bad debt, and total uncompensated health care in its fiscal year (FY) within 120 days of the close of the fiscal year as part of the hospital’s year-end financial report.
Charity care is defined in RCW 70.170.020 as necessary hospital health care rendered to indigent persons, to the extent that the persons are unable to pay for the care or pay the deductibles or co-insurance amounts required by a third-party payer.
The decline in the percentage of charity care offered by hospitals may be due in part to an improved economy.

 Day to Day Judaism: Charity
Charity is traditionally thought of as relating solely to helping fellow man, to relieving the burden of neighbors in trouble.
It is "justice." The Latin term for charity, caritas, implies an act of giving by the "haves" to the "have-nots" -- out of the goodness of their hearts.
But since all are created equally in the image of God, there is a duty that devolves upon the "haves" to give of their substance to the "have-nots" in order to effect justice and to enable the have-nots to survive, as they themselves do.

 Check a Charity
Missourians who give to charity often have questions about what percentage of their gifts go to the charitable purpose and what percentage is used for administrative costs.
The charities also were asked to provide basic information, such as whether their services are available to residents of Missouri, and if their annual reports are made available to the general public.
If a charity you have contributed to in the past - or are considering contributing to - is not listed, it may mean that the charity did not respond to my office’s invitation to have its information included.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Love
The necessity of habitual charity is inferred from its close communion with sanctifying grace.
Apart from the cases of the actual reception of baptism, penance, or extreme unction, wherein the love of charity by a special dispensation of God, admits of attrition as a substitute, all adults stand in need of it, according to 1 John, iii, 14: "He that loveth not, abideth in death".
While charity embraces all the children of God in heaven, on earth, and in purgatory (see COMMUNION OF SAINTS), it is taken here as meaning man's supernatural love for man, and that in this world; as such, it includes both love of self and love of neighbour.

This was the attitude of Muslims towards giving charities, while lots of people nowadays spend enormous amounts of money on the doctors and medications neglecting the importance of a charity that might not even make a noticeable difference in their wealth.
However, for the charity to be accepted and to achieve it's goals, the Believer must consider some essential manners when giving the charity.
It is also much better for the Muslim to give charities during his life when in need of money, than to wait until death comes to him, then he commands his inheritors to give the charity on his behalf.
