The charities involved have failed to secure more than £9 million tax relief on money pledged in telephone donations because, under Revenue and Customs rules, it cannot be claimed over the phone.
Simon Hebditch, of the Charities Aid Foundation, said that he believed that the Government should make a special case of the appeal for last December’s tsunami disaster.
