Of Albanel’s youth nothing is known, except that he had finished two years of philosophical studies when he entered the Jesuit noviciate of the province of Toulouse 16 Sept. 1633.
Albanel and his companion were detained by Bayly and then sent to England, after receiving hospitality, clothes, and money.
In London Albanel is supposed to have obtained a letter exonerating him which he could deliver to his superiors, who he was afraid would accuse him of deserting the missions.

The Jesuit priest Charles Albanel was born in Auvergne, France, in either 1613 or 1616.
Charles Albanel, Paul Denis de Saint-Simon and Sébastien Provencher came together at Tadoussac on the eighth of August, 1671.
Albanel came to an understanding with the local Amerindians, emphasizing the contribution he had made to the peace that had by then lasted five years with the Iroquois: "I have snatched from him [the Iroquois] his Pakagan, his battle-axe, and have even rescued from the flames thy two daughters and many of thy kin.

Albanel, Charles, Jesuit priest, missionary and explorer (b in Auvergne, France c 1616; d at Sault Ste Marie 11 Jan 1696).
After joining the Jesuit missions in Canada in 1649, Albanel was stationed at TADOUSSAC, from which he made numerous expeditions into the surrounding wilderness with the local Indians.
During 1671-72 he was sent by Intendant Jean TALON to explore northward to Hudson Bay to verify rumours of the presence there of French-speaking Europeans (who were, in fact, RADISSON and DES GROSEILLIERS, then in the service of the Hudson's Bay Company).

A council is held, where Albanel announces the peace now existing among the Eastern tribes, recommends to these Indians the Christian faith, and advises them to trade with the French[Page 14] rather than with the English who have recently come to Hudson Bay.
Albanel wins their confidence, and all desire him to instruct and baptize them.
