 Variety.com - Reviews - Over and Over
George and Maggie Antrobus, the archetypal man and wife from Thornton Wilder's "The Skin of Our Teeth," survive an ice age, a flood and a harrowing world war in the course of three acts, so they'll surely survive "Over & Over," the bafflingly disjointed and seriously misbegotten musical adaptation of the 1942 play.
Stein's book follows closely the structure of Wilder's play, with the first act introducing us to the Antrobus family as they fend off the ravages of an encroaching iceberg and the havoc it's wreaking on civilization.
It never comes back together, either, as the Antrobus clan meanders through various other calamities: a human-race convention that ends in the flood, George's betrayal of Maggie with Sabina and his subsequent repentance, the pregnancy of Gladys and the murderous behavior of Henry, all sped through with a critical lack of dramatic shaping.
