Charles Blomfield, the son of Elizabeth Emily Hickman and her husband, William Blomfield, a cutler, was born on 5 January 1848 in Holborn, London, England, the seventh of nine children.
Charles Blomfield, with two of his friends, was among the gold-seekers, but their claim was very poor and after weeks of hard work they had only a meagre amount to show for their efforts.
Blomfield was strongly attracted by the native bush and began to paint pictures of the scenery.

 Bauer v. The Blomfield Co./Holden Joint Venture (4/9/93), 849 P 2d 1365
Blomfield's $877,000 commission represented five percent of the increased gross rental income earned by the partnership from lease extensions obtained from the state by Blomfield on partnership properties leased by the state.
One of the conditions upon which Chuck and Patricia Blomfield based their settlement was the agreement of the partners to pay Chuck Blomfield an $877,000 commission for the lease extensions that he obtained on the partnership's properties.
Furthermore, the rate Blomfield received is greater than 5% as the rent on which the "commission" is based is a future stream of income, not a present lump sum.

 Johnson & Higgins of AK v. Blomfield (12/15/95), 907 P 2d 1321
A&F sought a declaratory judgment that the Blomfields' expenses and losses were not covered under the policy because of a contamination exclusion, and the delay in reporting the claim to A&F. The Blomfields counterclaimed for $1,845,946.
He testified that he was surprised and pleased by the low amount for which the Blomfields were willing to settle their claim against A&F. Before trial the Blomfields agreed to reduce the initially-claimed nine categories of damage to three: renovation, lost rents (less operating expenses saved), and interest.
The Blomfields might have argued that their recovery against J&H should be based on the breach of contract, and that accordingly there should be no apportionment of fault.

Charles Blomfield is known to many as the painter of the Pink and White Terraces of New Zealand's thermal region, the extraordinary formations of siliceous rock once hailed as the Eighth Wonder of the World.
The destruction of these terraces in the 1886 eruption of nearby Mount Tarawera led to the sudden rise in importance of all representations of them; and Blomfield's terrace paintings, because they were among the most beautiful ever done, and were perhaps the most faithful to their subject, shot to instant fame.
Blomfield's most notable characteristic, however, must be his highly developed aesthetic sense.
