Charles Camsell (February 8, 1876 – December 19, 1958) was a Canadian geologist, mining engineer, and Commissioner of the Northwest Territories from December 3, 1936 to December 3, 1946.
Camsell served in a number of capacities on boards, commissions and councils, and acted as a delegate to many international conferences throughout his career.

Camsell, Charles, mining engineer (b at Ft Liard, NWT 8 Feb 1876; d at Ottawa 19 Dec 1958).
Son of a Hudson's Bay Co factor, Camsell was appointed geologist with the Geological Survey in 1904, became chief exploration geologist in 1914 and deputy minister of mines in 1920, a post he held until retirement in 1946.
The Charles Camsell General Hospital in Edmonton is named in his honour.

Charles was only stretching the truth a little bit when he bragged about his northern hometown of the 1880's having a library, a pool hall and a museum.
Charles' father had brought together quite an amazing collection of books and these were loaned out to the various smaller forts up and down the Mackenzie River while the museum was a collection of stuffed animals, fossils, interesting rocks, and Mammoth tusks and bones all set up in a room off the library.

Camsell joined the Department of which he is now head in 1900 and became the administrative head of the Department of Mines in 1920, and when the department was amalgamated with the Departments of Interior, Immigration and Indian Affairs in 1936, he was again the administrative head of that Department and also Deputy Minister.

The physc wing was on the third floor, and this is where 'electro shock therapy' as well as various other inhumane treatment occurred, including the sterilization of those deemed unfit to breed (eugenics) - However after pouring over extensive amounts of hospital records and history books, i can neither confirm nor deny this.
However, considering that the Camsell was focused on treating tuberculosis and a primarily native population of patients, I doubt they had much involvement with eugenics or shock therapy.
When the hospital eventually shut down, it was done because of a new hospital being built near by and a lack of funding - not aesthetes as we are lead to think.
