Charles Douville Coburn was born in Macon on June 19, 1877, to Emma Louise Sprigman and Moses Douville Coburn.
Coburn was a passionate advocate for theater education and wrote letters to universities encouraging them to add professional actors as instructors.

Coburn died of a heart attack as he and his wife were listening to music at their Beverly Hills home, according to Coburn's manager, Hillard Elkins.
Coburn was born August 31, 1928 in Laurel, Nebraska.
The last of Coburn's 135 films, "American Gun," is drawing strong reviews on the film festival circuit, particularly for Coburn in the role of a father searching for the truth behind his daughter's killing by tracking the gun that killed her across the country.

James Coburn's deft blend of comic cheek and action heroics as Derek Flint made the film a major box-office success, and in 1967 he appeared in a sequel, In Like Flint, as well as two similar action comedies, Duffy and the cult film The President's Analyst(the latter of which Coburn helped produce).
In 1979, Coburn was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and in the mid-'80s, when his illness failed to respond to conventional treatment, he began to cut back on his work schedule.
Coburn was survived by two children, James H. Coburn IV and Lisa Coburn, his former spouse Beverly Kelly, and Paula Murad, his wife at the time of his death.
