 20 Daffodil's Dam
Owned by Charles Colyear (2nd) Earl of Portmore, she ran in the early 1730s, her most notable win probably being a 4 mile match race against Edward Coke's mare Silverlocks for 300 guineas at Newmarket in 1731; later that year a rematch was held, which she lost.
Many of his horses were painted by John Wootton, and quite a few bred on and are duly recorded in the GSB, therefore the absence of any information on Daffodil's dam, beyond the information that she was by Sir Thomas Gascoigne's "Foreign horse," is puzzling.
Sir Thomas Gascoigne, 4th Baronet, had an estate at Parlington, Aberford, near Pontefract in West Riding, Yorkshire, which he inherited, along with the title, from his childless uncle.

There he was tapped by William's predecessor to be Charles II's librarian.
As po- litical pamphleteer Edward Stephens described it in a pamphlet cir- culated that year, William had freed England from the "abomination of popery," but "debauchery and impiety remained." William and Mary took his commentary seriously enough to officially respond to it in writing in 1690.
The wunderkid William Wotton quickly rebuked his claims in an essay published in 1694, and a young Richard Bentley further refuted them in a 1697 dissertation.
