Charles Owen Griffith married Margaret Lucia Manatt, daughter of Samuel and Mary Jane Manatt, in 1892.
Charles Griffith became the manager of Samuel Manatt's farm and other business interests and so divided his time between Kalona and his home at 25th and G streets in San Diego.

- Betsy Ross (1752-1836) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She was a seamstress credited with helping to originate and sew the Stars and Stripes flag of the new American Nation in 1776.
In the trial that followed, Charles was found guilty and condemned as "a tyrant, traitor, murderer, and public enemy" and was beheaded several days later in front of Whitehall palace in London.

Pleasant Grove Methodist Church was organized in 1863 or 1864 by the Rev. Charles Cook, father of John W. Cook, a pioneer citizen of Beeville, under a Post Oak free near the bank of Neddy Creek.
