Charles Hazelius Sternberg (1850-1943) was an American fossil collector and amateur paleontologist.
Their three sons, George F. Sternberg (1883-1969), Charles Mortram Sternberg (1885-1981) and Levi Sternberg (1894-1976), also had careers in vertebrate paleontology.
In the Bone Wars, Sternberg was in Edward Drinker Cope's camp.

The son of renowned American fossil hunter Charles Hazelius Sternberg, Levi entered the family profession as a youth when he accompanied his father and brothers, George and Charles on expeditions to some of the richest dinosaur deposits in the United States.
In 1919, the younger Sternberg left his father's professional company to accept an invitation by William Arthur Parks to assist him in the collection and preparation of fossil vertebrates at the R.O.M. This began a career with the museum that lasted 43 years, during which Sternberg led 21 expeditions in Canada and the United States.
In addition to having a great sense of humour, Sternberg was recognized by his colleagues as a scrupulous collector with a keen sense of judgement.

A very well-preserved complete hadrosaurid specimen (Edmontosaurus annectens) was recovered in 1908 by the fossil collector Charles Hazelius Sternberg and his three sons, in Converse County, Wyoming.
This specimen's skin was almost completely preserved, together with some muscles and was analysed by Henry Osborn in 1912.
Sternberg was in Cope's camp during his famous competition to name new species with Othniel Charles Marsh.
