Charles Kemble (November 25, 1775 - November 12, 1854) was a British actor.
A younger brother of John Philip Kemble, Stephen Kemble and Sarah Siddons, he was born at Brecon, South Wales.
Ultimately he won independent fame, especially in such characters as Archer in George Farquhar's Beaux' Stratagem, Dorincourt in Hannah Cowley's Belle's Stratagem, Charles Surface and Ranger in Benjamin Hoadley's Suspicious Husband.

KEMBLE, Charles, actor, born in Breton, Wales, 27 November, 1775; died in London, England, 12 November, 1854.
At this time Bliss Kemble's attractive Shakespearian characters were Juliet, Portia, Constance, and Queen Katherine, supplemented by Bianca in "Fazio," Julia in "The Hunchback," Belvidere in "Venice Preserved," and Juliana in " The Honeymoon." In 1832 she came with her father to this country, and played for about two years in the principal cities.
Kemble's renderings of the masculine roles of Bear and Macbeth were particularly admired.

Fanny Kemble was born in London in 1809.
Her father, Charles Kemble, was soon to take over from his father, John Kemble, the role of managing director of the Covent Theater.
Kemble spent 1845 restoring her soul in Italy, where she wrote a heartfelt memoir, "A Year of Consolation." She then returned to England and resumed her acting career in "The Honeymoon" at the Theater Royal in 1847.

As a resolute abolitionist, Fanny Kemble was unwise to marry a slave-owner.
Born in Lon­don in 1809 into the Kemble clan, which dominated the theatre with talent and numbers, she showed early signs of an independence and energy that despite her height — she was under five foot — would often label her “masculine”.
The Kembles saw themselves as artists rather than actors, and Fanny was educated genteelly in Paris, her first aspirations being for literature rather than the theatre.

Kemble apologized in the newspaper for his transgression and absolved Miss de Camp of any blame, and that seemed to be the end of the story.
The Kembles' third child (after John Mitchell, two years her senior, and a boy who died in infancy) and their first girl, she was named Frances after her father's sister, the retired actress who became her godmother, and Anne after one of her mother's dear friends.
Kemble's attachment was permanent and lasting, although it did not have the homoerotic component that imbued many female friendships during this era.

She was the eldest of 12 children of Roger and Sarah Kemble, who led a troupe of traveling actors (and were progenitors of a noted family of actors to a third generation, including a famous granddaughter, Fanny Kemble.
Kemble was saved from ruin by a large loan, afterwards converted to a gift, from the Duke of Northumberland and by the sale of his fine library.
At a subsequent performance, August 31, at the theatre, £30 was raised for the benefit of a distressed widow and her family, and for the week commencing September 18 “the tragic history of Romeo and Juliet” was acted.

I have examined and am now returning the typed account of Kemble's Notebooks which you sent me. I am far from being an expert in Anglo-Saxon matters, and I think that whoever wrote the account of the Notebooks is at least as inexpert as I am.
The whole collection would of course have much interest for the College, for Kemble was a great scholar and if much of his work is now obsolete he none the less made available a great deal of the material with which later scholars have worked.
Kemble papers were at first offered for sale as a unit.
