Richmond Hill (population 159,864 as of June 30, 2004) is a town in York Region north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Richmond Hill was incorporated as a village in 1873, and as a town in 1957.
Richmond Hill is sometimes known as "Rich man's Hill", referring to the fairly large population of middle-to-upper class families living in the area.

Charles, 3rd duke of Richmond (1733-1806), was one of the most remarkable men of the i8th century, being chiefly famous for his advanced views on the question of parliamentary reform.
The 4th duke (1764-1819) and his wife Charlotte, daughter of the 4th duke of Gordon, were the givers of the famous ball at Brussels on the night before the battle of Quatre Bras, immortalized in Byron's Childe Harold.
Richmond was incorporated as a Village in 1818 and chartered as a borough in 1834 and as a city in 1840.

His grandson William, 3rd earl of March, became 4th duke of Queensberry on the death without surviving male issue of his cousin Charles, 3rd duke of Queensberry, in 1778.
Dying unmarried in i8io, the several titles of the duke passed to different branches of the house of Douglas.
