The most prominent New Zealand case now undergoing exculpatory reinterpretation is that of a woman called Gay Oakes, currently serving a life sentence for the murder of her common-law husband, Doug Garden, father of four of her six children.
This is the woman whom we (and the New Zealand courts) are seriously invited to believe is a helpless victim, a woman who, though not mentally deficient, seems never once in her life to have thought more than ten minutes ahead, even about such matters as bringing a child into the world.
A New Zealand court has given credence to accusations that even the Spanish Inquisition might have found preposterous, a sign oddly enough of how far the courts have come under the influence of the bien-pensants, and how much they fear their censure and crave their approbation.

Chris Laidlaw: Charles never to reign over us [New Zealand]? (Queen Elizabeth II as last monarch?)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
New Zealand and other "old" Commonwealth countries (Australia and Canada) have now evolved to independent countries that has its own laws governing monarch succession, and the only constitution ties with Britain itself is that we share the same current monarch of the United Kingdom.
I have suspected that the reason Charles is being allowed to marry Camilla is that he will - within a short period of time - abdicate his succession to the throne - thereby allowing their courts to put forth William as the next to succeed to the throne.
For me, New Zealand (or Australia, or Canada, or Britain etc) dropping the monarchy would be the same thing as the U.S. deciding that the Constitution is old and out of date, so just scrap it.

Amy Ridenour's National Center Blog: Prince Charles-Camilla Parker Bowles: Settling the Civil Ceremony Question
Far be it for me to suggest a possible compromise settlement to any of the controversies relating to the Prince Charles-Camilla Parker-Bowles wedding (royal controversies give the British press their raison d'etre), but I have a suggestion that could resolve questions regarding the legality of Prince Charles marrying in a civil ceremony.
Any change in the laws governing the succession to the British throne must also be adopted by the Parliament of each of these nations in order for the changes to apply in these nations.
This scenario, while unlikely, at least has the entertainment value of permitting us to envision a world in which countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and tiny Tuvalu recognized the British monarch as their head of state -- but did not recognize Britain's choice of monarch.
