  Charles J. Precourt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Upon graduation, Precourt was assigned as a test pilot at Edwards, where he flew the F-15E, F-4 Phantom II, A-7 Corsair II, and A-37 aircraft until mid 1989, when he began studies at the United States Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
Precourt is currently the Deputy Manager for the International Space Station, responsible for the day-to-day management of ISS operations, on orbit assembly and the interfaces with NASA contractors and the International Partners.
From October 1998 through November 2002, Precourt was Chief of the Astronaut Corps, responsible for the mission preparation activities of all space shuttle and future International Space Station crews and their support personnel.

 Shuttle-Mir History/People/Astronauts/Precourt
Precourt commanded STS-91, the ninth and final space shuttle mission to dock with Mir.
Earlier, Precourt served as pilot aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis for STS-71 that was the first Shuttle-Mir docking mission and the flight that brought Norm Thagard, the first American Mir astronaut, back to Earth.
Precourt earned a Bachelor of Science in aeronautical engineering from the United States Air Force Academy, a Master of Science in engineering management from Golden Gate University, and a Master of Arts in national security affairs and strategic studies from the United States Naval War College.

Precourt served as pilot of a shuttle mission to dock with Mir in 1995 and Collins served as pilot of the Discovery for a Mir rendezvous earlier that year.
Precourt served as pilot of Atlantis for the first Mir docking mission in 1995 and Collins piloted the Discovery during an earlier Mir rendezvous flight.
Precourt said later this was due to a stiff tailwind and crosswinds from the pilot's right of six knots with gusts up to nine (the limit is 15 knots).

Precourt is a distinguished graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval War College.
