Charles Pye was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
On 17 November 1857 at Lucknow, India, Sergeant-Major Pye acted with great fearlessness under fire when bringing up ammunition to the Mess House and on every occasion when the Regiment was engaged.
Charles was baptised 24 Sep 1820 at Forebridge, Stafford, Staffordshire.

The Victoria Cross awarded to Sergeant-Major Charles Pye, 53rd Regiment (later The King's Shropshire Light Infantry) was donated by a private collector who had received the medal from a family source.
The extraordinary military career of Charles Pye began with service in the 40th Regiment at the Battle of Maharajpore, India, on 29 December 1843, followed by enlistment in the 21st Regiment during the Sutlej Campaign of 1845-1846 and taking part in the Battles of Moodkee, Aliwal and Sobroan.
Charles Pye died whilst visiting relatives in Victoria, Australia and is buried in the Tower Hill Cemetery, Koroit.

Pye was the step-son-in-law of Charles Calvert, 3rd Lord Baltimore, and Anne was the sister-in-law of Philip Calvert.
Walter Pye, son of Edward and Anne, was described as "late of MD in the West Indies," when on 4 August 1699 administration was granted to Robert Chaplin, guardian of Charles, Walter, and Anne Pye, minors, nephews and niece of the deceased.
Charles Pye of the Mynde, Herefordshire, son of Edward and Anne, evidently returned to England, and was living between 1716 and 1743.

The Pye House is the last remaining 19th century house in Cape St. Charles, Labrador.
When restored, the Pye House will be used by guests of the Battle Harbour Historic Trust and as a residence for researchers working on the Southern Labrador Reseach Initiative.
Due to its age and its geographic and historical context, the Pye House was designated as a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador on March 27th, 2003.

William Pye who married Blanche was in Barbadoes where his father operated a plantation, and in Maryland where some of the Ferryland Pyes settled.
William's father was also John Pye, brother of Charles and Cap't Roger Pye who was a Maryland loyalist and was given land on Briar Island, Digby, Nova Scotia in 1784.

Harding began his artistic training at an early age and exhibited his first drawings at the Royal Academy at age thirteen.
After a brief apprenticeship with the engraver Charles Pye, he began working with watercolours and regularly exhibited his landscape paintings at the Society of Painters in Watercolours after 1818.
He started experimenting with the medium of oil painting in 1843, and after years of exhibiting at the Royal Academy and attempting to become an academician, was reinstated as a member of the Watercolour Society in 1856.
