At the Althorp estate of Diana's brother Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, a spokesman confirmed Shand Kydd was the princess's brother, but said the family had no comment at this stage.
Spencer was granted a divorce two years later because of his wife's adultery with Peter Shand Kydd, and she was named the "other woman" in the uncontested divorce of Peter and Janet Shand Kydd.
Earl Spencer won custody of Diana and her sisters and brother.

Charles Edward Maurice Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer, DL, (born May 20, 1964), is the second and only surviving son of Edward Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer by his first wife, the Honourable Frances Ruth Burke Roche (later Shand Kydd), daughter of Maurice Roche, the 4th Baron Fermoy.
Spencer moved back to the United Kingdom after his sister's death in part to oversee the family estate Althorp, and on December 15, 2001, he married Caroline Victoria Freud, née Hutton, a former nursery teacher who was previously married to Matthew Freud.
Spencer delivered a eulogy at the funeral of his sister Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997, and managed her interment on the Althorp estate.

She was the daughter of Robert Sidney, 2nd Earl of Leicester and Dorothy, daughter of Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland and Dorothy De~reux (the latter being the widow of Sir John Perrot, ancestor of the author).
