Charles William Tait, planter and physician, was born in Elbert County, Georgia, on June 4, 1815, the son of planter James A. Tait.
Tait compiled a set of "Plantation Rules" that reflected relatively humane and enlightened management principles, for the use of his overseers in directing the labors of his slaves.
In 1850 Tait was elected to a term as commissioner of Colorado County.

 Elizabeth Charles - LoveToKnow 1911
ELIZABETH CHARLES (1828-1896), English author, was born at Tavistock on the 2nd of January 1828, the daughter of John Rundle, M.P. Some of her youthful poems won the praise of Tennyson, who read them in manuscript.
Her best known book, written to order for an editor who wished for a story about Martin Luther, The Chronicles of the Schonberg-Cotta Family, was published in 1862, and was translated into most of the European languages, into Arabic, and into many Indian dialects.
She took an active part in the work of various charitable institutions, and among her friends and correspondents were Dean Stanley, Archbishop Tait, Charles Kingsley, Jowett and Pusey.

Tait was ordered to take command of the post at Fort Holmes on Smith's Island (Bald Head), an important part of the defenses with Fort Fisher in the mouth of the Cape Fear River near important port city of Wilmington, NC.
By 1879, George Tait, Ruling Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Norfolk and a "man of high ideals and consecration", was elected Superintendent of the Sunday School, a position he held until his death on a visit to Bladenboro in 1898.
