Most the Tobias ancestry came to Ohio between 1840 and 1870 from Berks County, PA. Your cousin Chris Bosela, daughter of David, had done some research about 15 years ago, she may still have some of the info.
David's father was Charles Tobias whose dob was 11/15/1827 in PA, his dod was 12/14/1914 in Montgomery County, OH.
Charles' father was Christian Tobias, born in 1797, died in Montgomery County, OH in 1869.

A native of Hungary, Tobias took a field that deals with the effects of electricity on chemical reactions and with electricity produced by chemical reactions -- the best known practical examples are batteries and electroplating -- and gave it a sound scientific footing.
Tobias influenced the lives of many students and faculty members at Berkeley who thought of him as a role model and friend.
Tobias chaired the chemical engineering department from 1967 until 1972, and served as acting dean of the College of Chemistry in 1978.

Christian died in 1869 and is buried in Pyrmont Cemetery in Montgomery Co. One of Christian's sons was Charles Tobias, dob 11/15/1827 in Berns County, Bern Twp, PA. He married Elizabeth Painter on 10/11/1849 in PA and had the following children:
Charles, my father, was born 8/29/1920 had six children and died 9/5/1992.
