Charles de Gaulle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
De Gaulle's grandfather was a historian, his grandmother a writer, and his father a professor in private Catholic schools who founded his own private school.
De Gaulle believed that while the war in Algeria was militarily winnable, it was not defensible internationally, and he became reconciled to the colony's eventual independence.
De Gaulle was convinced that a strong and independent France could act as a balancing force between the United States and the Soviet Union, a policy seen as little more than posturing and opportunism by his critics, particularly in Britain and the United States, to which France was formally allied.

In the aircraft, an inertial system, also hybridized with GPS, receives this information from the aircraft carrier system and uses it to initialize its position, speed and acceleration, despite the "lever arm" which exists with regard to the ship's navigation unit.
This is the basic operating principle of "at-sea alignment", first applied by Sagem in the 1970s and continued today in the Rafale fighter aircraft on board the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier.
In the 1970s, Sagem made both the inertial units ("tuned-rotor gyroscope technology") of the Super-Etendard aircraft and their hybrid navigation systems, as well as the hybrid navigation system of the aircraft carrier, which was based on the same type of inertial system.

The new French nuclear carrier "Charles de Gaulle" has suffered from a seemingly endless string of problems since it was first conceived in 1986.
Flaws in the "de Gaulle" have led it to using the propellers from it predecessor, the "Foch," because the ones built for "de Gaulle" never worked right and the propeller manufacturer went out of business in 1999.
The "de Gaulle" took eleven years to build (1988-99) and was not ready for service until late 2000.
