Charles de Rohan, prince de Soubise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charles de Rohan, prince de Soubise (1715–July 4, 1787) was a peer and marshal of France, the grandson of the Princesse de Soubise, who is known to history as one of the mistresses of Louis XIV.
Soon after the beginning of the Seven Years' War, through the influence of Madame de Pompadour, he was put in command of a corps of 24,000 men, and in November 1757 he sustained the crushing defeat of Rossbach.
He was more fortunate, however, in his later military career, and continued in the service until the general peace of 1763, after which he lived the life of an ordinary courtier and man of fashion in Paris.

Soubise's chief exploit was a singularly bold and well-conducted attack (in 1625) on the Royalist fleet in the river Blavet (which included the cutting of a boom in the face of superior numbers) and the occupation of Oleron.

He had some difficulty, however, in inducing Soubise to risk a battle, and the Allies did not begin to move off their camping-ground until after eleven on the 5th, Soubises intention being probably to engage as late in the day as possible, with the idea of gaining what advantages he could in a partial action.
The plan was to march the Allied army by Zeuchfeld, round Fredericks left (which was covered by no serious natural obstacle), and to deploy in battle array, facing north, between Reichardtswerben (right) and Pettstgdt (left).
The dukes proposed battle and the more limited aim of Soubise were equaliy likely to be attained by taking this position., which threatened to cut off Frederick from the towns on the Saale.

However given numerous accounts of her as “Senegalese” it is likely that she did endure the “middle passage” as young girl because the original African homeland of slaves that were born locally on plantations was rarely referred to.
According to a petition Pierre de Bologne II, George’s elder brother, made in 1769-1770, the family traced its descent from the "noble and ancient house of Bologne, originating in Italy, and from the city of that name".
