(via archive) Le Corbusier Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris ARCHITECT
From 1922 Le Corbusier worked with his cousin Pierre Jeanneret.
In 1917 he settled in Paris where he issued his book Vers une architecture [Towards a New Architecture], based on his earlier articles in L'Esprit Nouveau.
During this time, Le Corbusier's ideas began to take physical form, mainly as houses which he created as "a machine for living in" and which incorporated his trademark five points of architecture.

 Boston museum celebrates Art Deco
Although the Swiss architect Charles-D'Edouard Jeanneret, better known as Le Corbusier, had designed a pavilion sponsored by L'Esprit Nouveau, a decorative-arts magazine he had founded, he disdained most of the works in the exposition.
Mounted on 55 acres in the heart of Paris, it hosted pavilions displaying the decorative arts of some 20 countries.
In a series of articles he wrote for the magazine, he mocked them as mere "arts Deco," from the title of the fair.

Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, introduced the armchair "Grand Confort" in 1929 as part of an interior created for the "Salon d'Automne" in Paris.
In concurrence with its programmatic name "Grand Confort," the armchair's chrome-plated tubular steel frame and the five voluminous, orthogonal leather cushions evoke both comfort and formal reduction.

Born as Charles-Edouard Jeanneret in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a small town of Neuchâtel canton in northwestern Switzerland, just across the border from France, Le Corbusier was attracted to the visual arts and studied under the tutelage of the teacher at the local arts school, Charles L'Éplattenier, who had himself studied in Budapest and Paris.
He himself designed his earliest houses, like the Villa Fallet, the Villa Schwob, and the Villa Jeanneret (the latter of which was for his parents) in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
