Silent film comedian and film director Charley Chase was born Charles Joseph Parrott in Baltimore, Maryland on October 20th, 1893 to Charles and Blanche Thompson Parrott, vaudeville performers.
Charley got his start with Mack Sennett's Keystone Studio and he can be spotted in early Charles Chaplin films such as the Sennett feature "Tillie's Punctured Romance" (1914), also with Marie Dressler.
Charley was hired to direct stars like Snub Pollard but wound up performing in front of the camera instead.

Charley Chase was an incredibly prolific star comedian of the 1920s and 1930s, producing hundreds of short comedies in both the silent and the sound eras.
Chase's classic silent comedy "Mighty Like a Moose" (1926) is, according to the Registry, among those "fairly well-known films not yet selected to the Registry", and is routinely nominated each year for inclusion in the Registry.
The only way to convince Hallmark to release the Chase comedies on DVD is if they see that there is a demand for them...so what I suggest is that everyone (and that means EVERYONE) who is at all interested in getting Chase on DVD contact Hallmark through their contact form off of their website.

Charley Chase doesn't get nearly the accolades that some silent comics receive, but perhaps Kino's Slapstick Symposium series will help set that right.
Charley gets a job as a butler to the nobleman and misunderstands his instructions to give Duke (the family dog) a bath, thinking he needs to give one to the nobleman.
Chase deserves much more credit for his comedy than he gets, and this disc would be an excellent introduction to his pictures.
