Charlot was, of course, aware of the major importance of that medium in mural art, especially liturgical, and he was intrigued all his life by technical craft problems.
Charlot 1963: 259; defending his position in the Mexican mural movement, Charlot wrote, 1925b, "I was also the first one to complete a mural fresco, the technical difficulties which found resolution in my work having been of great aid to those who came after me."  Charlot - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charlot was a son of Charlemagne according to the Matter of France, the cycle of legends surrounding Charlemagne.
He slew the son of Ogier the Dane, and was killed in revenge, causing a long period of strife between the two warriors.
Charlot is possibly based on Charlemagne's real son Charles, who predeceased his father; Auguste Longnon identified him with Charlemagne's grandson Charles the Child, who died before his father Charles the Bald in a similar situation as Charlot in a fight with a man named Aubouin.

Slemhakkah, or Bear Claw, also known as Charlot, was a Flathead Indian who resisted nonviolently the American government's attempts to force his people from their homelands in Idaho, Montana, and Washington onto an undesirable reservation.
Charlot also spoke in defense of all native people when the government proposed to tax reservation Indians in 1876.
Charlot was a chief in the Flathead nation -- but his words may suggest rhetorical strategies which we have seen before -- in Apess, Paine, and other gifted earlier writers.

Jean Charlot, Mujer con cántaro. Andres Blaisten Museum
The central figure holds a bundle of clothing over her head, and the gently undulating landscape in the painting is reduced to a diagonal, zigzagging path dotted by women hanging laundry.
In this work, Charlot reconciles two seemingly antithetical elements, transforming them through complementarity and balance: he paints a costumbrista subject in a modern, abstract style.
The tightly packed composition is a study in balance and geometry, exemplifying the “planiste” cubism Charlot had assimilated in Paris.

Charlot   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
