"CHARLTON KINGS, a parish in the hundred of Cheltenham, in the county of Gloucester, situated on the high road from London to Cheltenham; it is 1½ mile from the latter place, and 2 S.E. from the Charlton station of the Great Western railway.
In the adjacent parish of Dowdeswell the river Chelt rises, and flows through Charlton parish from E. to W. The parish is under the management of a Local Board of Health.
In 1855 a handsome vestry-hall was erected close to the church, in which parish meetings are held.

Charlton Kings Local regeneration Partnership (CKLRP) was formally set up to take the project forward, comprising representatives from CK2000, Charlton Kings Parish Council and Cheltenham Borough Council and representatives from the local community.

 Sisters of La Sainte Union bid farewell to Charlton Kings
The Sisters first came to Cheltenham in 1935, bought Charlton Park and after extensive renovation, opened it as a grammar school for girls (both boarding and day pupils) in 1939.
Both the Bishop and Father Alan spoke warmly of the contribution made by the nuns during their stay in Cheltenham and commented how grateful they were that Sister Frances is to stay to continue her work as a much-valued parish sister.
After mass, 150 people sat down in the parish hall to a splendid lunch provided by a group of ladies of the parish and it was a happy get-together and a wonderful opportunity for renewing old acquaintances.

In Parts 1 and 2, we traced the history of this family of yeomen and craftsmen from the 16th century down to Thomas Cleevely, carpenter, who lived in Church Street, in part of a house which stood where the slope goes up to the Library.
Subject to this, all the real and personal estate was to go to the youngest son James and his heirs (Charlton people still had a feeling that the family home ought to go to the youngest son).
Sometime before, Sarah and her son had sold off the ground in front of the house, and a new brick dwelling (formerly called Milverton, now The Roses) had been erected there c.1890; for about 10 years this building was Charlton's police station and the cell at the back (afterwards a bathroom) can still be seen.
