Charmion King, an actress who began her stage career in the 1940s and was a leading force in the Canadian theatre, died Jan. 6 at the age of 81.
King was often referred to as "The Grand Dame of the Canadian Theatre." Her career began at The Crest Theatre and she was a founder of Muskoka's Straw Hat Players.
Charmion King was born in a ritzy neighborhood of Toronto on July 25, 1925.

King originated the part at Tarragon in 1979 and later played it in New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre in the same year, as well as in a Toronto revival in 1986.

Veteran actress Charmion King-Pinsent, who was known as the "grand dame of Canadian theatre", passed away in her native Toronto on Saturday at the age of 81.
It's not hard to see why Charmion favoured the stage, particularly given that it was where she met her husband and the love of her life -Away From Her star Gordon Pinsent.
Charmion's last theatrical performance was in the Soulpepper Theatre Company's February 2006 production of Our Town.

Charmion King, a veteran stage actress and wife of actor Gordon Pinsent, died in Toronto on Saturday at the age of 81.
In a career spanning almost 60 years, King appeared on film, television and radio, but her first love was the stage and she was often referred to as the "Grande dame of Canadian theatre."
