The Borough of Charnwood lies at the heart of the East Midlands, with the major cities of Nottingham &; Derby to the north, and Leicester to the south.
Loughborough is the main town and has become a major centre for advanced technology, being particularly strong in engineering, health care & pharmaceuticals and energy research & development, and underpinned by one of the country's leading universities.
Charnwood Forest, from which the Borough takes its name, lies to the west of the Borough and it borders the new National Forest.

The constituency is dominated by Luton airport and the Vauxhall car plant, and it came as a major blow to the area when Vauxhall announced that they plan to close their plant by mid 2002 with the loss of 2,000 jobs.
The constituency is part of the Neath and Port Talbot local authority area, which voted Yes in the 1997 referendum by a majority of 18,267, which was 66% of the vote in that area - the biggest single Yes percentage in Wales.
A very middle class constituency, it has the fifth highest proportion of non manual workers in the country (78.9% of its workforce) and over a third of its adult population possess higher educational qualifications, compared with a national average of 13% (according to the 1991 census).

If they want to be in Parliament passing the laws we all live under all these people should have to go out and get themselves elected by their fellow citizens.
I have to say that being upset by "a string of rebukes" from the Chief Whip is the feeblest reason I have ever heard for leaving the PLP and must be causing laughter amongst the likes of Abbott and Corbyn who have spent their entire parliamentary careers being threatened with disciplinary action.
The constituency where my council ward is - Hackney South & Shoreditch - has the 6th worst level of child poverty - 47% - in the UK.
