 Ferl - Worrying Results from FE Library Provision Survey
CILIP (the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) have published their UK Survey of Library and Learning Resource Provision in Further Education Colleges 2003.
A striking finding is that the number of open access computers in a library or LRC bears no relationship to the number of students at that college; the average number of places provided at a college with 18,000+ students being identical to the number provided to a smaller college (499 - 7,000 students).
The authors of the survey, a project team based at Northumbria University's Information Management Research Institute, expressed their concern that, despite the high response rate (59%), areas of data were not returned by FE colleges' nominal heads of libraries due to their status within the college - usually 'middle management'.
