  History of Chateaugay, New York
Admiral Bailey was born in Chateaugay in 1805.
It was situate on the west bank of Chateaugay river, a mile west of the village, and in 1835 was replaced by the present mill, on the east bank.
The Chateaugay town records show no less than nine licenses granted to taverns in 1806, and I am told that the fee at that time and for a number of years subsequently was three dollars each.

The town was officially organized at a meeting in March of 1787 at which men were elected to serve as clerk, constables, selectmen, listers, leather sealer, half-tithingmen, surveyors of highways, and sealer of weights and measures.
The town is bounded to the west by the lake, to the north by the Town of Shelburne, to the east by Hinesburg, and to the south by Ferrisburgh.
The new roads are private roads serving a few houses and unconnected to the rest of the town.

Orville H. Gibson was born in 1856 on a farm near the small town of Chateaugay, New York, in an area known as "Earlville," about one hour north of Lake Placid and about an hour south of Montreal.
Orville was a patient in Kalamazoo Hospital for extended periods in 1907 and 1909, and he eventually left Kalamazoo to travel back to New York State.
