Outside of its largest community, Chatham, which has a population of 43,500, the muncipality is largely rural, with small towns interspersed between large areas of agricultural land.
Kent's namesake is a county along the Thames River in England, downstream from London, just as Chatham-Kent is a municpality along the Thames river in Ontario, downstream from London, Ontario.
Chatham and the municipalities of Kent County were no exception to this rule, as they too were under pressure to amalgamate or face cutbacks.

Additionally, the Municipality released an e-commerce solution, RecConnect, which enables members of the community to sign up for recreational programs, browse for facility booking information, and pay online.  Web services were also created to allow for communication between the content management system and the GIS software to extend the "Map It" feature.

Veterans from across Chatham-Kent gathered in Tecumseh Park on a cold, fall day Monday to celebrate the official opening of the Veterans' Walk, a renaming and dedication of the path that runs through the park from King Street to William Street.
The idea originated with Branch 28 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Chatham about 1 1/2 years ago.
Zone A3 Commander Al Heyninck helped push the project through and said it was appropriate that the special honour came in the Year of the Veteran.

These items were donated to the Chatham Kent Women’s Centre Inc. on behalf of District 33 RTO/ERO.
Perhaps this can become routine after any overnight trip as both the Women’s Centre and Transition House can use any such items.
