The first stage is characterized by the presence of a wide terrigenous shelf and the unconformities recognized have been regarded as dominantly eustatic (Mellere et al., 2000).
The Chattian to Langhian samples are predominantly quartzolithic, with some minerals typical of medium-grade and low-grade metamorphic rocks.
During the first stage of sedimentation (Chattian to Langhian), the foreland basin was filled by sediments derived from erosion of mainly crystalline Austroalpine units exhumed north of the Periadriatic Lineament.

CHATTIAN, 23 Dec 2005 (IRIN) - The crowd appears impatient as a small Pakistani military helicopter hovers over tiny Chattian village, some 1,600 m above sea level, loaded with relief items.
But as the helicopter lands and goods are unloaded, a family with a sick child rushes to clamber on board to get their loved one airlifted to hospital in Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistani-administered Kashmir, as quickly as possible.
No roads lead to Chattian and there is no electricity in the area either.

 The Light Bearer Characters
In the harsh wastes of the barbarian north, remote from the sumptuous imperial court of first-century Rome, a child is born on dirt and straw in the rude thatched hall of a tribal chieftain.
She is AURIANE, daughter of the most influential war leader of the Chattians, the fiercest and most independent of Rome's Germanic barbarian enemies beyond the Rhine.
She's fascinated by this isolated specimen of the terrifying, all-conquering 'tribe' of the south whose 'war magic' is so superior to that of her people.

Review of The Light Bearer -- Publishers Weekly   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
At the center is Auriane, the daughter of a Chattian chieftain, fated to lead her tribe against Rome but also to disgrace it by murdering her father.
Marcus is haunted by his late father's vague records of a German warrior maid, and the two finally meet when Auriane is captured in Domitian's Chattian campaign.
For anyone interested in this tumultuous period of Roman despotism and Germanic tribes, Gillespie's epic is an intriguing recording of everyday detail, national issues, and, more impressively, overarching influences of religion and psychology.

Recognition and detailed description of these events is the first step to unravel the possible underlying mechanisms of the extreme climate changes and will help to understand the extreme climate changes in the past and to predict possible future scenarios.
The improved correlations and paleoenvironmental reconstructions indicate that the Rupelian-Chattian boundary is associated with the so-called ‘Oligocene Glacial Maximum’.
Five Rupelian and three Chattian sequences are furthermore identified.

Furthermore, it would be very helpful if the Chattian tribes were also allied - or at least not hostile - with Laconica.
The Chattian tribes were not very cooperating, and therefore I wanted to conquer their territories.
In the end, I managed to get some form of support because two daughters of the Laconican king were married to the tribal chiefs, although I think Zagrus was also playing pretty heavily on them.

CONCLUSIONS   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
The Rupelian/Chattian boundary is tentatively placed between Sections 162-985A-51X-2 and 50X-5, as determined from the highest or last occurrence of Areoligera semicirculata.
Thus, the Rupelian is ~105 m thick; the Chattian, if present, is represented only by Section 162-985A-50X-5.
There is a remarkable correlation between dinocyst events at Sites 985 and 643, the latter drilled during Leg 104.

Although they were beaten back, Roman forces reached the conclusion that a permanent solution had to be found.
In 83, Emperor Domitian marched into Chattian territory with a large force to defeat the Chatti and to ensure their submission.
Each Chattian warrior carried his own provisions and digging tools, much like the Roman soldier, and a system of supply followed large-scale troop movements.

PRELIMINARY GEOCHEMICAL RESULTS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MAIKOP SERIES, SHAMAKHA-GOBUSTAN OIL PROVINCE, EASTERN ...
The first suite of samples from the Shamakha-Gobustan oil province is made up of mostly Oligocene-aged strata according to biostratigraphic analysis, and certain trends have been identified that show appreciable differentiation between Rupelian- and Chattian-aged strata.
While these large trends are seen, it is obvious that there is a fair amount of source rock variation on a smaller scale, both vertically and laterally, with TOC values ranging from 0.25 to 5.62, and large variations in other geochemical parameters.
A possible stratigraphic division between the Rupelian and Chattian sections of the Maikop Series is suggested by the data, and this idea will be reinforced or refuted by ongoing research in the area.

 CV Ellen De Man
This multidisciplinary project employed biostratigraphy, physical stratigraphy, stable isotopes and sequence stratigraphy to overcome correlation problems between the Belgian Basin and other classic marine sedimentation basins on the Northern Hemisphere.
The purpose of my PhD study is to document the stratigraphic breaks in the Priabonian –; Rupelian –; Chattian succession in the southern North Sea Basin by means of foraminifera and stable isotopes.
Traditional paleoclimatological methods based on analysis of the calcareous microfauna are combined with sedimentologic and geochemical tools such as stable isotope analyses and strontium isotope stratigraphy.
