The former TAG Route was abandoned south of Hedges, GA by NS (including the Pigeon Mtn tunnel) and a new shortline was created by the Columbus and Greenville Railway to begin service on the remaining northern portion of the line on September 11th, 1989.
The Chattooga and Chickamauga remains as the operator of the line.

The TAG passed into history in 1971 when it was purchased and merged into the Southern Railway System.Early in its history, the TAG was an important route for coal mined on top of Lookout Mountain.
Today's TAG Railway is very much different than the important route of the 1950s and 1960s.
Later, almost all of the southern end of the railway was abandoned, and the Gadsden yard no longer exists.

Therefore, we recommend that the following condition be imposed on any decision granting abandonment authority: Trustees of the Cincinnati Southern Railway shall consult with the National Geodetic Survey and provide NGS with 90 days notice prior to disturbing or destroying any geodetic markers.

A short line railroad operating Chattanooga-to-Hedges, Georgia (19 miles) on the former Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia Railway and Chattanooga-to-Lyerly (49 miles) on the former Central of Georgia Chattanooga Division.
The Georgia Department of Transportation purchased the Lyerly branch from Norfolk Southern in 1998 and began working with the CandC to increase freight traffic over the line.
The Lyerly branch originally continued south to Rome but Norfolk Southern abandoned this section before leasing the remainder to the CandC.
