	Canacona - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The town of Chaudi is the administrative headquarters of Canacona taluk.
		Highway Route NH17 from Mumbai to Goa connects Chaudi to Panaji and Margao.
		Mallikarjun Temple at Shristhal, some 2.5 km away from Chaudi on the main-road leading to Karwar (take the road going left) is one where devotees head for advice from the oracles.

		The Tiny Bay Palolem, 2-km west of Chaudi, pops up more often in glossy holiday brochures than any other beach in Goa; not because the village is a major package tour destination, but because its crescent shaped bay lined with a swaying curtain of coconut palms, is irresistibly photogenic.
		With the beach now lined along its entire length with brightly lit shack cafes, finding somewhere to eat in Palolem is not a problem, although the locals have to buy in most of their fish from Margao and Karwar.
		The Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, 10-km southeast of Chaudi, was established in 1969 to protect a remote and vulnerable area of forest lining the Goa- Karnataka border.

		I had been taken to the local market town, Chaudi (10km away) - on the back of a motorbike of course (the prefered method of transport to get anywhere if you know the right people).
		Going to the hectic Chaudi was a completely different experience to visiting the similiarly polluted and bustling towns of North India.
		The smoke was the same, the hawking, the hustling and hassling...but this time I understood it.
