  Editorial: Is Chivalry Sexist?
The standards we refer to for backing-up the way things are in our fictional worlds (in which we invite others to role play) rely on Earth History.
Most folk believe the Victorian image of the Mediaeval Ages to be the most romatic; and it is from that image that we get Chivlary and Chauvanism confused.
Chauvanism is the attitude held by men that they are better than women.

 What is Dude Power?
Some people misinterpret "chauvanism" as a type of sexist prejudice that can only be possessed by males.
"Chauvanism" is often associated in speech as having a male-oriented connotation.
This is why many boys act violent and get into trouble when they are older; the Masculinazi way of thinking takes root in their childhood.

Then, either his career is likely to self-destruct, or--much worse from the standpoint of the overall organization--higher management will fail to recognize the problem and will leave him in his job, doing damage to the spirit and performance of the enterprise.
People who have developed a particular skill...for instance, exploring the nuances of literary texts...often fail to understand that the mental and personality attributes required for this job are not necessarily those required for other jobs (like those of a national leader).
Returning to business: in developing one's own career, it is important to consciously avoid functional chauvanism and to learn to appreciate the skills and contributions of those in other functions.

And in my opinion it's actually easier for women now that they have more lenient standards, more support services, etc., than men do (especially white men) so all this hand-wringing about how hard it is for women in the academy (and elsewhere) is to me quite pathetic.
The best and most effective committee members I've ever worked with have been men; the most sincere and approachable profs I've ever had were men; the most fair and reasonable teachers and graders have been men.
Thus, if women are being assigned more committee and other kinds of work, then I think it's primarily because of the rampant female chauvanism in the academy, not some vast "old boy's club" or other conspiracy.

Bond exibited a similar attitude in his sexual conquests, semi-forcing women into submission, with a smile of course, assuming (again, laughing in his mind) "you know you want it sweet thing." I'm only guessing, but probably back then the mild snobbery was acceptable.

Further, the negative connotation of chauvanism shows that the author thinks it is always bad to place American concerns first.
Where interests cannot be separated, I do expect our politicians to play the game to our strategic advantage: conceding enough to get what we want, but not so much as to weaken our position.
Olly: That paragraph is certainly more obnoxious in terms of its wild speculation, but I do find the bit about "'America first' chauvanism" to be fairly obectionable.

The bottom line is, we say "Grow some balls" because throughout our history the male has been the one who always had to get the courage to do something.
Chauvanism and issues in relation to its nature are pretty much abandoned, except for the people who keep bringing it up and saying there is a problem, when in reality it is hardly even there.
If someone says something like "grow some balls", you just automatically know that they didn't literally mean to grow some actual balls.

There’re a number of theories about identity and the Other, how while identity is self-reflexive, it finds definition in the presence of the alien.
On the one hand, one could argue that it is effectively a ‘monocultural’ country, with the dominance of the bumiputera.
That kind of chauvanism, however, leads to an idea of ethnic supremacy which is really the recognition of differences without the appreciation thereof.

Such talk willl be derided as "regional chauvanism" by the London 'opinion makers' who find the very idea of a political North to be midly amusing but that should not deter Northerners from asserting the right to self-government.

Is it too much to expect some degree of moral proportion and at least a faint scent of restraint on national chauvanism in the American discussion of terrorism?
Indeed, voices of conscience, voices with some sense of history are being raised, but they are moving around on the web and emails far more than in the mainstream press.
My own moral assessment, seeking some sense of proportion and restraint on national chauvanism is this: A country which has dangled the sword of nuclear holocaust over the world for half a century and claims that someone else invented terrorism is a country out of touch with reality.

[A-List] Cyprus: Are Greeks the only player to blame?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Some Turkish leftists, who are subconsciously inspired by Kemalist/nationalist/mainstream/social democratic analysis of Cyprus, explain Turkish intervention in terms of a response to a military coup plotted by Greece.
While this is not totally undeniable, the Turkish view leaves out chauvanism and conservative politics on the Turkish side (and how it was "also" plotted by imperial powers).
Although this article takes a Turkish Cypriot point of view, albeit from a progressive side, it is useful to see how colonial powers organized Turkish chauvanism on the Island (so greeks were not the "only" player to blame).

Interestingly, both Creationism (and the literalist (Judaeo-)Christianity from which it is derived) and Anthroposophy display the same extreme speciest chauvanism.
The human race is the paragon of creation, all other life is just there for a secondary (albeit still important) purpose.
This is a natural consequence of Steiner's Graeco-Christian worldview and the reason why, with it's all its insights and strengths, Anthroposophy is unlikely to exert much influence on the future evolution of human consciousness.
