Boxing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Boxing, also called pugilism, Western Boxing, prizefighting (when referring to professional boxing) or the sweet science (a common nickname among fans), is a sport and martial art in which two participants of similar weight fight each other with their fists in a series of one to three-minute intervals called "rounds".
In modern boxing, the rope-a-dope is generally discouraged since most opponents are not fooled by it and few boxers possess the physical toughness to withstand a prolonged, unanswered assault.
Nevertheless UK Law Colleges currently teach that boxing is an exception to the general legal rule that is almost certainly safe from R v Brown and generally from being outlawed by caselaw/judges (for public policy reasons, that is to say political and social reasons), as long as Parliamentary Statute in the area remains unchanged.
