Cheadle is a small town near Stockport in Greater Manchester in England.
Cheadle is believed to date back approximately 1,500 to 2,000 years and appears in the Domesday Book under the name "Cedde" which means "Clearing in a wood".
Cheadle grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution when it was used as a stopping point for travellers and merchants on their way to Manchester.

A family's worst fears were confirmed yesterday when they were told that a mix-up in names at a mortuary had meant that they had buried a complete stranger in their family grave.
The Manchester coroner, Sir Leonard Gorodkin, has set up an inquiry after the body of John N M Walsh, 77, was given to the family of a John Walsh, 75.
John N M Walsh's son Graham alerted the undertakers Alcock and Sons, in Cheadle, Greater Manchester, that there was a problem when he noticed that the body in the coffin did not look like his father.

Hospital chiefs in Manchester have apologised for a blunder which led to the bodies of two men with the same name being mixed up.
The body of John Walsh was exhumed yesterday from the grave of John NM Walsh and an examination of dental records proved it was the wrong body.
Manchester Royal Infirmary released a statement apologising to both families and saying procedures had been introduced to prevent a repeat of the "regrettable" incident.

The Manchester Regional War Room was opened in 1952, it is now located within a secure compound in the car park of the Alexandra Hospital in Mill Lane, Cheadle (off Manchester Road).
After the disbanding of the CD Corps in 1968 it was placed on care and maintenance until about 1981 when it was reactivated as the Greater Manchester County Main Control (later Emergency Centre) remaining operational until 1991 when the Emergency Centre was relocated to Bury Fire Station to the north of the City.
The building was purchased by the Greater Manchester Fire Brigade in 1996 but they have been unable to find a use for it as it would cost too much money to bring it within current health and safety regulations.
