Cheadle (UK Parliament constituency) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cheadle is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
Realigning with the county boundaries in 1983, the constituency was refashioned as a part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, losing Wilmslow to Tatton, and smaller parts to Macclesfield and Stockport.
The Cheadle constituency underwent minor boundary changes after the 1992 general election and as such the change in share of vote is based on a national calculation.

Guardian | Tory big guns target Lib Dems in Cheadle
In the article below on the Cheadle parliamentary constituency we mistakenly gave the impression that the Tories had not won a byelection since 1982.
They have held on to several seats in byelections since then, but the last time the Conservatives gained a seat from another party was in Merton, Mitcham and Morden in May 1982.
As a hardworking constituency MP, Ms Calton commanded a strong personal vote which Mark Hunter, the Lib Dem candidate and leader of Stockport council, knows he will struggle to match.

The Liberal Democrat MP for Cheadle, Patsy Calton, died today at the age of 56 after a long battle with cancer, the party announced.
Despite a recurrence of her illness during the general election campaign, Ms Calton decided to remain a candidate and was returned to Parliament on May 5 with a greatly increased majority.
Her seat was the most marginal in the country and the Conservatives' top target on May 5, but she increased her wafer-thin majority to 4,020, boosting her share of the vote by 6.5% to 48.9%.

Whilst Cheadle Conservatives welcome the South East Manchester Multi-Modal Transport Study (SEMMS) recommendation that the by-passes be completed, they believe that the proposed down graded scheme, with roundabouts at each junction with existing local roads, instead of underpasses, as originally proposed, will lead to unnecessary congestion.
They also believe this inevitably means that the so-called ‘temporary’ junction on the eastern end of the existing MAELR section at Woodford Road, Bramhall, would have to remain.

Cheadle was one by 33 votes last time.
I hasten to add when I say that we won by 33 votes, that in 1992 it was the third safest Conservative seat, so we came a long way in Cheadle constituency from 16,000 behind to a 33 ahead in the space of less than ten years.
No wonder people don't vote in elections, it's not because they don't think their vote will count, it's not because they're bored with politics in a sense, it's because they see a political system that bears no relevance to them whatsoever.
