"Cheaper by the Dozen" (2003) / a review and/or comments from Christian Spotlight on the Movies
The other scene that got to me was the one towards the end of the film when the family (mom and all 12 kids) hold up a sign "We Love The Coach" to show the dad that they love and support him, no matter what happens.
One last great thing that I appreciated was the fact that this film shows the need that children have for both their parents.
Negative elements - Near the beginning of the film there was a small conversation among the kids where Hillary Duff’s character (Loraine) talked about how Christmas is a sad holiday because it’s when Jesus died, which leads other kids to “correct” her.

Any resemblance to the original 1948 bestseller ''Cheaper by the Dozen" and the ensuing 1950 movie has long been obliterated by the needs of the marketplace: The DVD player in your den is hungry, and this movie means to feed it.
Noisy, silly, gratingly upbeat, and piously sentimental, ''Cheaper by the Dozen 2" is what passes for wholesome family entertainment these days.
A dad is a terrible thing to waste, and ''Cheaper by the Dozen 2" is one vast, cheery wasteland.

Cheaper by the Dozen is supposed to be about the joys and difficulties of a large family, but its clutter only makes us feel that we are spread too thin by watching it.
As in the first film, this premise -- that Catherine's plot is a series of lies -- is mildly interesting.

FilmJerk.com - Film Review: Cheaper by the Dozen 2
The first “Cheaper by the Dozen” was a family film nightmare of obnoxious kids and awful direction.
The original “Dozen” was a film based around pranks the kids pulled on those they didn’t like, or just those they got in the way.
Of course, Shankman beats all honest heartache into the ground with an overactive score and abuse of close-ups, but the mere appearance of a genuine feeling in a film as plastic as this is cause enough to crack open the champagne and jitterbug.

 Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
Directed without a single ounce of comic flair by over-employed hack Shawn Levy (Just Married), Cheaper by the Dozen is a cringe-inducing mixture of tired slapstick and gooey sentimentality.
Whatever his reason for starring in Cheaper by the Dozen, Martin and co-star Bonnie Hunt do little but beam and shake their heads at the "antics" of their unruly brood, who run roughshod over everyone and everything in their path, including the audience.
Very loosely based on the 1950 film starring Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy, Levy's remake is narrated by Kate Baker (Hunt), a writer and full-time mother to 12 children ranging in age from 22 to four.

Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) - A Review by David Nusair
With family films of this sort, such instances of maudlin preaching are to be expected - but Cheaper by the Dozen is jam-packed with so-called tender sequences, virtually to the point where it makes Full House look edgy by comparison.
Cheaper by the Dozen, an update of the 1950s family film, suffers from just that predicament.
While Cheaper by the Dozen is essentially entertaining in a mindless sort of way, it probably would've worked a whole lot better had the sentimental moments been left to a minimum.

Description: The original Cheaper by the Dozen came out in 1950; based on a true story, it was basically about the end of an era.
If this version of Cheaper by the Dozen is really "about" anything, it appears to be about marketing, featuring appearances by popular TV stars Hilary Duff, Tom Welling (Smallville), and an uncredited Ashton Kutcher.
Okay, some of them are cute, but it's indicative of the film's shoddy efforts at characterization that, at the end of the film, when one boy mentions that two of his siblings hate each other, it comes as a total surprise to the audience that just spent 90 minutes with them.

slant // magazine.com: Film Review - Cheaper by the Dozen
he only thing more outdated than Cheaper by the Dozen's soundtrack—which features 1992 pop hits "Life Is A Highway" by Tom Cochrane and "These Are Days" by 10,000 Maniacs—is its hokey life lessons concerning the importance of family over career.
The film's '50s ideals decry careers as dangerous nuisances that interfere with one's ability to properly manage a household, thereby completely disregarding—save for a phony epilogue—the fact that family and professional lives are (duh!) frequently compatible.
Of course, since the Bakers eagerly chose to inundate themselves with 12 children, one can also see the film's conclusion as a refreshing rebuke to these narcissistic parents and their naïve dream of having a life outside the messy family they created.

TheMovieBoy Review - Cheaper By The Dozen (2003)
Syrupy, dumb, and desperately unfunny (I laughed once, and that was during the end-credits blooper reel), "Cheaper by the Dozen" is the worst family film of the year, a sub-sitcom-level failure as abhorrent as it is half-baked.
Directed by Shawn Levy (2003's "Just Married"), "Cheaper by the Dozen" purports to being a realistic, humor-filled look at raising kids, yet goes so far in the opposite direction it might as well be set on a different planet.

Yeah, there's always Martin to watch, and "Cheaper by the Dozen" is the sort of multiplex comedy that sustains the box-office side of a career.
The original film was an inspired evocation of 1920s Americana in which a loving family adhered to the dictates of the efficiency-expert father, modified by their psychologist-mother.
Midway through the film, one child complains that all the father cares about is his career, which should bewilder the audience because up to this point Tom has hardly spent a moment of screen time away from the family.
