High pressure chemical vapor trapping method invention
While prior art positions the hot trap upstream of the exhaust pump to avoid damage to the pump, it was found that there was no significant damage to the exhaust pump by having the pump connected directly to the process chamber.
The cold trap cools the chamber to a temperature in the range from 25 degrees to minus 200 degrees Celsius.
In other aspects of the invention, the hot trap includes a second input port to accept a catalyst selected from the group consisting of water, alcohol, and ammonia whereby the catalyst furthers the chemical reaction in the first chamber.

Patent 4686367: Method of operating quadrupole ion trap chemical ionization mass spectrometry
The ions then exited the trap because of space-charge repulsion (or were ejected by a suitable voltage pulse to one of the end-caps) and were mass-analyzed by a conventional quadrupole.
The field required for trapping is formed by coupling the RF voltage between the ring electrode 11 and the two end cap electrodes 12 and 13 which are common mode grounded through coupling transformer 32 as shown.
According to the present invention the ion trap is operated in the chemical ionization mode as follows: Reagent gases are introduced into the trap at pressures between 10.sup.-8 and 10.sup.-3 torr and analytic gases are introduced into the ion trap at pressures between 10.sup.-5 and 10.sup.-8 torr.

Chemical Ionization Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer
The use of an ion trap will allow the collection of all ions of interest simultaneously for 70-85% of the total measurement time.
The ion trap can then analyze both parent and daughter ion spectra from numerous compounds of interest in the remaining 15-30% measurement time.
The ion trap mass spectrometer that we are developing at NCAR is being constructed in-house, and is unique by the measures that will be taken to improve ion throughput above that provided by commercial instruments.

Arctic suffering chemical pollution — WWF
The Arctic has become a ‘chemical sink’ for the world, with high levels of toxic materials that have never been used nor manufactured in the region, according to a new report from WWF.
The report — ‘The Tip of the Iceberg’ : Chemical Contamination in the Arctic — finds that in some cases the chemical concentration found in the region is higher than in the countries in which they were originally made and used.
The conservation group is calling on the European Union to act on the findings of the report and toughen chemical regulations, to reduce the ongoing impact in the Arctic and around the world.

 A Better Fruit Fly Trap
A newer version of the trap uses a combination of chemical and visual stimuli to attract and trap the fruit flies.
The chemical stimulus is derived from three chemicals that have been isolated from food baits—ammonia, putrescine, and trimethylamine.
The three chemicals lure the flies into the trap, where they are enticed to feed on a panel that contains a feeding stimulant and toxicant.

 Non-chemical Rat Control
Trapping avoids the use of toxic pesticides and any associated risks to children, non-target animals, and the environment.
For best results, snap traps should be "pre-baited" without setting the bail for several days; and then when the rats have overcome their initial fear and have begun to take the bait, re-bait them and set them all on the same evening.
Snap traps should be set with the trigger end in the rats' travel paths, and only in areas inaccessible to children, pets, and non-target animals.

New Instrument Effective in Detecting Chemical Warfare Agents
Each chemical present is identified by a detectable spectrum as unique as a fingerprint.
The sputtered molecules, called secondary ions, retain the chemical characteristics of the chemical warfare agent stuck to the surface of the soil.
The current standard for verifying the presence of chemical warfare agents is gas or liquid chromatography in conjunction with mass spectrometry.

Process Engineering | Find the perfect steam trap | Chemical Processing
These traps operated on the principle that steam is a gas and condensate is a liquid.
In the process of trying to simplify their choices in steam traps, many plant engineers are making the selection based only on the purchase price of the actual trap, not the overall cost.
The float and thermostatic steam trap is sensitive to freezing and water hammer.

Stormwater Sediment Trap Pilot Study   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The sediment traps were able to collect sufficient material (8-164 grams, dry) at all sites to perform at least a portion of the planned physical/chemical analysis on the trapped particulates.
Results of chemical analysis of the trap samples indicated that, for metals, the data collected were comparable to a particulate sample collected by continuous-flow centrifugation.
Additional data on the performance of the stormwater sediment traps under actual field conditions (especially high flow) are needed before the traps are ready for routine application in a regulatory framework.
